The powerless Torah

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"For what the Torah (Law) was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so He condemned sin in the flesh" (Romans 8:3 NIV).

The Torah being powerless in the front of human flesh, it could not by itself produce life in man. This is why God had to send his Son into a human body to condemn the sin that dominated the flesh.

When we accept the work of Jesus Christ fulfilled at the cross, we allow the Torah to produce Life in us by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is how the Spirit of Life frees us from the power of sin that made our flesh so strong (Romans 8:2). The Torah can then perform in us its works of righteousness as we walk by the Spirit (Romans 8:4), which allows us to no longer live under condemnation (Romans 8:1).
