The eye of the Lord

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope [yachal] in His mercy" (Psalm 33:18).

The Hebrew word yachal means 'to hope' (NKJV), 'to wait for' (Amplified), 'to expect'. This verb yachal expresses a great faith that honours the Lord. The psalmist feared God, of course, but he expected to see His goodness manifested from one moment to the next because his soul was in great need.

From heaven, the Lord looks at the sons of man, and particularly those who fears Him. That's why we can be with joy when we put our trust in His Holy Name. Yes, the goodness of the Lord is upon us because we expect Him (Psalm 33:22).
