Diligence

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, but diligence is man’s precious possession" (Proverbs 12:27 NKJV).

According to the dictionary, diligence is the speed with which a task is performed. Proverbs highlight the benefits of diligence:

  • the hand of the diligent will rule (12:24),

  • the soul of the diligent shall be made rich (13:4),

  • the plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty (21:5).

Diligence has an antonym, laziness, and a synonym, zeal. Jesus Christ redeemed us from our vain way of life so that we might become a zealous people who perform the good works that God has prepared in advance (Titus 2:14).
