In returning... by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf "In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength" (Isaiah 30:15). Though God told the people of Israel not to leave Jerusalem, some turned to Egypt and sought Pharaoh's protection (Isaiah 30:2). And God saw this as an iniquity, like a breach in their protection (Isaiah 30:13). That's why He asked them to return to Him – to repent – and rest on Him to save their life, even during their deportation to Babylon. Likewise, Jesus asks us not to rely on the world and its solutions (spiritual Egypt) to carry our burdens, but to come to Him to receive His rest and to find salvation for our soul (Matthew 11:28-29). |
