I will blot out the remembrance of Amalek

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"Then the Lord said to Moses, Write this for a memorial in the book and recount it in the hearing of Joshua, that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven" (Exodus 17:14).

Amalek, grand-son of Esau, was the first to fight the people of Israel after leaving Egypt. In fighting the people of God, Amalek raised his hand against the very throne of God, that is why the Lord declared, "The Lord will have war with Amalek from generation to generation" (Exodus 17:16).

As soon as we leave the kingdom of Satan (Egypt) to enter the Kingdom of God, the enemy of our souls (Amalek) attacks us. But Jesus defeated Satan on the cross, and on His return He will erase any trace of Amalek from the earth. As Joshua overcame Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword, we shall overcome Amalek with the sword of the Word in our lives.
