Chosen to be blameless in love

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ... just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame [amomos] before Him in love" (Ephesians 1:4).

The Greek word amomos means 'irreproachable', 'blameless'; this is literally the absence of stain, defilement and disgrace. Jesus offered Himself to God as a spotless [amomos] Lamb (Hebrew 9:14), so that He might present an irreproachable [amomos] Bride to Himself, that is holy (Ephesians 5:27).

We are also predestined to be blameless in love. Indeed Jesus gave His command to His disciples, "Love one another as I have loved you" (John 15:12), because the entire Torah is fulfilled in this command (Galatians 5:14). That's why He gave the five ministries to bring us to the fullness of Christ so that His Body be edified in love (Ephesians 4:11-16 Darby).
