Philosophy

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy [philosophia] and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ" (Colossians 2:8).

Although the Greek word philosophia literally means 'love of wisdom', philosophy originated from the desire to search for scientific knowledge. Later it spread to man, psychology, ethics, logic and metaphysics. But God has hidden things of His Kingdom from the wise of this world and has revealed them to babes (Matthew 11:25).

Philosophy is a trap, for wisdom of this world is foolishness with God and it leads us away from Christ who was made 'Wisdom' for us. Those who have the Greek spirit seek human wisdom, but as Christians we have the wisdom of God (1 Corinthians 1:20-30). To God who alone is wise, be honour and glory forever and ever! Amen (1 Timothy 1:17).
