The last exodus

by Jean-Louis Coraboeuf

"Moreover I will endeavour that after my departure [exodos] you may be able at any time to recall these things" (2 Peter 1:15).

The Greek word exodos means departure but also exit. According to Hebrew 11:22, by faith Joseph, at the end of his life, referred to the departure [exodos] of the Israelites out of Egypt to enter the Land God promised to Abraham (Genesis 50:24). Similarly, in this passage, Peter felt he too would leave Egypt (this world) to enter his promised land (his heavenly home).

He knew that his departure was near and he was leaving his earthly tent (his body), so he was ready to leave to join his Lord and Master. Of course, we are all concerned by this exodus, but are we ready?
